When we were children, our parents taught us that everyone deserves a chance to participate. They taught us to think clearly. And they taught us that money wasn’t everything.
John Bogle, the inventor of the index fund, took those lessons to heart. With one simple innovation, he broke the stranglehold of fees Wall St and the mutual fund industry had on America. He created something, that, perhaps more than anything in the past century, has allowed all Americans to enjoy the rewards of a market system.
Unlike most financial titans, John Bogle gave up great personal wealth for this pursuit. In the face of temptation, he maintained his principles.
It was a revolution well founded. It was a life well lived. For that, we are grateful.
