Vermont Financial Advisor

When looking for a Vermont financial advisor, here are some important considerations for you to keep in mind.

  • In a financial relationship, the type of fee structure matters. Some advisors operate under a commission fee structure, in which high-cost mutual funds and other products they put in your accounts pay them on the back end to do so. One Day In July Vermont financial advisors do not have that incentive.
  • Our firm focuses almost exclusively on low cost index funds (we will make exceptions to this at client request or in special circumstances).
  • Excessive trading activity should not be considered a justification for high fees. In fact, the practice of "churning," or buying and selling primarily to generate commissions, is illegal and unethical.1 We charge low fees and don't claim that activity leads to value. We believe that, in investing, over time less activity tends to make you more money (and save you on fees).
  • Generally, we think financial advisors charging 0.8% to 1.5% fees is too high. See our fee schedule here.

It is common that a new client looking for a Vermont financial advisor will bring in statements, and we will see many high-fee mutual funds, annuities, and other instruments in their accounts that promise to benefit the financial industry more than the investor.

If you are looking for a Vermont financial advisor, we encourage you to contact us to set up a free consultation via phone or in person with one of our advisors in Burlington, Shelburne, Rochester or Stowe.

By using index funds and charging low fees, our financial advisors aim to improve investment management in Vermont and nationwide.

With the exception of 529s and certain workplace retirement plan accounts, investment accounts are held at Charles Schwab, and clients are able to view their accounts online through the Charles Schwab portal. We will work with Schwab to ensure your account transfers from other financial firms are as seamless as possible. Assets can often be transferred over into your Schwab account in kind.
